Pay in Bitcoin with PayPal (US only)

Pay in Bitcoin or Litecoin with PayPal for US customers

Due to the nature of our products, it happens frequently that RedFox is not able to process credit/debit cards - especially if they are issued in the US. But there is a workaround if you have a verified PayPal account in the US: pay with crypto and get a 10% discount on top when paying with crypto.

Prerequisites
In order to buy Bitcoin with PayPal - or any of the other cryptocurrencies offered by PayPal - you'll need a verified account known as a PayPal Balance account. If you're a regular user of PayPal, you may already have one of these accounts, which are required to use many of the platform's services. PayPal requires users with balance accounts to verify information including their name, physical address, date of birth and taxpayer identification number. Also, keep in mind that PayPal doesn’t support crypto transactions in Hawaii, and business accounts can’t participate. This PayPal service is not (yet) available in other countries.

This guide helps you going through the process:

STEP #1: How much crypto do I need to buy?

If you don't have (enough) funds on your Paypal account, you need to send some money to Paypal.

Before purchasing crypto on PayPal, we need to know how much US$ we need to change into crypto currency.

In shopping cart you'see the US$ amount needed for this purchase.

This amount is an estimate without our 10% crypto discount, but we have to take into account that Paypal charges an exchange fee and crypto miners will charge a mining fee. Both together should be below 5%.

However, if you buy crypto for the amount shown (round down to full dollar), you are on the safe side.

STEP #2: Buy crypto currency on PayPal

We recommend to use Paypal in Desktop browser.
  • Log into your Paypal account
  • Click on Finances at the top
  • Then click Buy
Choose the crypto currency you wanna buy.
RedFox accepts Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH), you can choose any of the 3 accepted crypto currency.
Currently we suggest LTC, fees are lower and transaction is faster.
However, for this example we select Bitcoin.
Enter your amount in US$ and then click Next.

Choose your payment method and click Next

Please note: the cryptocurrency transfers feature may be disabled on your account due to a variety of factors:

  • Users with a negative balance will not be able to transfer crypto.
  • Pending crypto purchases such as those purchased via a bank transfer may take multiple days to clear.
  • Crypto purchased with a debit card will be instantly available to transfer
(Source: PayPal).

STEP #3: Purchase process

If you paid the crypto on Paypal with available balance or debit card you can proceed immediatly, if you paid via bank transfer, you might have to wait 3-5 days until Paypal received your money.
  • Go to RedFox Purchase Page
  • Select the products you want to purchase
  • Click Checkout
  • Enter your data and select Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, or Litecoin as Payment Method and click Next
  • On page 2 of checkout, double check all data and click Order

On last page of RedFox checkout, you will see the amount, crypto currency and wallet address.

We have to copy/paste amount and address into Paypal later. The QR code can be ignored, it does not work with PayPal.

No need to keep this page open, you should have received an email from RedFox with amount and wallet address (check your spam folder if you do not see it in your inbox)

Open PayPal in a new browser window or tab, then click on Finances and then the currency you bought. (In our example Bitcoin)

Click on the left/right arrows button as highlighted.
Select Send BTC

Here you need to paste the wallet address from RedFox checkout page or from the email you received from RedFox.

Then click the left right arrow button

On next page enter/paste the amount to send and tap Next

Review the transaction details and click on Send Now

Depending on the crypto currency (BTC/BCH/LTC) you have chosen and the traffic in blockchain, it takes a few minutes or hours until the transaction has been added to the blockchain mempool. The moment it has been added (we do not wait for confirmations), you will receive 2 emails: one with your invoice and one with your license(s).

Issues and FAQ

If you get this "Your crypto is processing" error, you might have to wait until Paypal received your money and you have enough balance on your account. This can take up to 5 business days.

Just try again a few hours later or next day.

"There's a problem" is is another famous and unspecific PayPal error which might occur after adding funds.

That is likely due to the transfer being initiated just after purchase. Paypal's crypto platform is provided by a third-party proxy and therefore every transaction may need additional verification before the crypto becomes readily available for transfer. This review can take up to 5 business days.

Do not try too many times in a row, as it could trigger the PayPal security system to place a 48hrs block.

I could not add the RedFox order# in Paypal. How does RedFox know that I paid? Each RedFox crypto order gets its own unique wallet address, so when a crypto payment comes in, we know which order it is associated.
I paid RedFox after 7 days and did not get my license.

A crypto order will kept "active" for 6 days.

While active, our shop is checking constantly every 5 minutes the blockchain for your payment and gives up monitoring the wallet address (unique per each order) after the timeout of 6 days.

If your payment arrives after 6 days, it will not be processed automatically - contact our suppport as we need to revive the order manually to track the blockchain for your payment.

I cannot enter a wallet address, only email or a code is allowed! If you are not able to send crypto to an external wallet address (outside of PayPal ecosystem), most likely your Paypal account is not verified yet.
Panic! I could not send enough money, Paypal and/or mining fees ate too much! If your crypto payment is lower than the due amount in your initial order, you will receive an email like "give more money".
If the difference is just a few cents (< 2 USD), the system gives you a lucky extra discount and send you the license(s).
Is there a RedFox forum thread about Paypal/crypto? Yes, your feedback and questions are welcome: forum.redfox.bz
Where can I monitor my crypto transaction? All crypto transactions are publicly availabe in blockchain explorers like blockchair.com - just search (copy/paste) for the wallet address.
